. The adjustable components of the RP4500SARG allow you to quickly and effectively cover your dumpsters without drivers having to crawl up onto the truck to adjust the load or the tarp system. The whole process can be done in a matter of minutes, safely on the ground. This system more than pays for itself through faster swap-outs, fewer injuries, and better containment.
The adjustable gantry tower allows you to raise the tarp above the top rail of the dumpster while deploying the tarp arms. This prevents your tarp from catching on any of the material sticking up and out of the dumpster (not that any of your customers would ever overfill or haphazardly load your dumpsters!). Once the tarp is rolled out over the load, almost like a lid floating above the dumpster, the gantry can be lowered to form a tight seal over the front of the container. If you have the HR4759 Roll Off Tarp with expandable flaps, this will also cause the flaps to fold out around the lip of the dumpster, providing full envelopment of the side rails.
NOTE: Tower requires 10 to 12 inches of space behind cab.
The telescoping arms allow you to adjust the landing position of the tarp roller when the tarp is deployed. Dumpsters vary in height depending on the volume of the container. Without adjustable arms, you can't control where the tarp arms land. If you overshoot the gate of the dumpster, then your arms will be unsupported and will bounce with every bump in the road, which will strain and damage the welds, the pivot assemblies, the arms, and the tarp. If you fall short of the end of the dumpster, then you will have a gap in your coverage which will allow debris to fly out, resulting in costly DOT citations, or worse, traffic accidents!
How does the Rack and Pinion system work?
The rotation of the tarp arms is controlled by finely-tuned hydraulic cylinders on each side of the truck that push and pull a toothed rack gear along a track. This engages a pinion gear located at the base of the arms and contained within Pioneer's iconic "tombstone" housing. The benefit of this design is the tight, precise control over the arms. Spring-loaded arms bounce and can apply tension unevenly. A series of hydraulic flow dividers and diverters allows for precise synchronization of the moving parts.
Additional RP4500 Features:
- Spring-loaded tarp roller that moves with the arms and prevent tarp from snagging
- Rugged 3/16" wall-thickness A500B Steel Arms
- Fully enclosed rack and pinion gear housing with brush guard
- Nitrited External Cylinders for Easy Maintenance
- PTO system taps into your truck's existing hydraulic system
- Includes heavy-duty reinforced mesh tarp with expandable flaps
- 5-YEAR WARRANTY ON SYSTEM (excluding the tarp)
RP4500SARG Parts:
Standard replacement tarp is the HR4759. Other options include 8' x 28' Multi-Mesh Tarp or a 9-1/2' x 28' reinforced black mesh tarpp.

Pioneer Rack 'n Pinion Tarp System - The #1 Roll Off System!
The RP4500SARG Rack and Pinion tarp system is fully adjustable, with telescoping arms and an adjustable gantry. It has been the industry standard for decades, famous for its high configurability, low-maintenance design, and reliable construction. Ideal for tandem or tri-axle hooklift and roll-off trucks running 20 to 50 yard containers up to 24' in length.
Features:
- Hydraulic-Powered Telescoping 3/16" A500B Steel Arms
- Nitrited External Cylinders for Easy Maintenance
- Adjustable Gantry Tower (60"-96")
- PTO system uses truck's existing hydraulic system
- 5-YEAR WARRANTY ON SYSTEM (excluding tarp)
The RP4500SARG rack gear's forward and backward movement is controlled by a hydraulic cylinder which works in conjunction with the pinion gear located at the base of the pivot arms, which allows for speed control and precise synchronization of the pivot arms as you roll and unroll the tarp. Starting with the strengthened base arm, through the Rack 'n Pinion Pivot and on to the reinforced "C" Channel, the RP4500SARG provides better leverage, greater control and longer life, which is why it has become the industry standard.
NOTE: Tower requires 10 to 12 inches space behind cab.
Tarp Included
The Pioneer RP4500SARG includes a 114" Heavy Duty Mesh Tarp, reinforced at the front and back with wear-resistant, urethane-coated nylon.
