Spline Shaft for 2" Steel Roll Tube - 21 Splines

The spline shaft, or spline cartridge, connects the Splined U-joint to the roll tube on a manual side roll tarp system. The rear crank handle plugs into the U-joint, which mounts to the spline, which is welded to the roll tube. This enables the transfer of rotational force from the hand crank to the roll tube, rolling your tarp from side to side. The splines (grooves) on the shaft interlock with the splines of the U-joint to ensure a secure connection. With 21 splines, you will be able to find just the right position to secure the roll tube in the closed position, and easily set the crank handle into the handle holders. The shaft measures 1-3/8", which plugs snugly into the 1-7/16" U-joint socket. The entire cartridge is 3.5" long, and the splined section is 2" long.

Roll Tube Spline Instructions

• Insert spline into rear of tube.
• Hold straight and weld all around, using care to avoid weld splatter and damage to the tarp and trailer.
• Weld several short beads, let cool and finish with fill welds between them.
• Let cool and grind weld smooth.
• For rust prevention, apply rust resistant paint to exposed metal surfaces.
• Slip the U-Joint spline socket over the spline shaft, gently rotating until the socket grooves align with the spline ridges.
• Insert 3/8" retaining pin through the hole of the U-Joint spline socket to lock the spline into the U-Joint.
• If adjustments are needed to get the rotational timing of the roll tube, just remove the retaining pin and reseat the U-joint onto the spline at a slightly different position until it rolls like you want it to.
