The HR4780-1 Winding Disk is a helpful tool for preloading tension on the internal spring of roll off tarp system rollers, specifically the HR2000, HR3500, and RP4500 and RP4500SARG tarp systems.

Roll Off Tarp System Winding Disk Instructions

1. Preparing for Installation:

  • Ensure that you wear protective gloves to prevent injuries during the installation process.
  • Verify that all components, including the winding disk, roller shaft, and associated hardware, are free from damage and debris.

2. Attaching the Winding Disk:

  • Position the winding disk onto the driver's side roller shaft, aligning it as per the system's specifications.
  • Secure the winding disk to the shaft using the set screws provided. Tighten these screws adequately to ensure the disk does not shift during operation.

3. Loading the Spring:

  • Begin by removing the 3/8-inch bolt from the arm and shaft to allow for free movement of the disk.
  • Carefully turn the winding disk in a counterclockwise direction. Follow the decals on the arm and disk for guidance, ensuring that each revolution is completed fully.
  • Continue turning the disk until you reach seven full revolutions. This action loads the spring by building the necessary tension within it.

4. Securing the System:

  • After completing the revolutions, hold the disk firmly in place and reinsert the 3/8-inch bolt through the arm and the shaft. This step is critical to lock the loaded tension within the system.
  • Install a 3/8-16 Stover lock nut onto the bolt. Tighten this nut securely to ensure that the assembly is stable and that the spring tension is maintained.
  • Double-check that the safety ratchet pawl engages with the saw-tooth gear on the roller shaft. This engagement is crucial for the safe operation of the tarp system.

5. Post-Installation:

  • Once the bolt is securely in place, carefully remove the winding disk from the shaft.
  • Store the winding disk in a secure location within the truck to prevent it from moving during transit and to ensure it is available for future use.

6. Safety Precautions:

  • Do not release your hold on the winding disk until the bolt is securely fastened. Sudden release of the disk could result in rapid unwinding of the spring, leading to potential injury or damage.
  • Always ensure that all tools and components are stored safely after use to maintain the orderly and safe environment of the work area.
